“The climate crisis is real, and we must act now to reduce global climate change. I believe if we act responsibly we can help reduce the effects of global warming, but also create thousands of green jobs for Maryland’s economy.”
— Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, February 19, 2008
In a dramatic press conference Tuesday, Governor Martin O’Malley threw his “strong, strong support” behind one of America’s strongest global warming bills. It was a truly historic day, and when leaders do the right thing we should show our appreciation. Please, please click here to thank to Gov. O’Malley right now.
Standing next to CCAN director Mike Tidwell (far left) and other leaders, Gov. O’Malley annnounced his support of the Global Warming Solutions Act. |
The Global Warming Solutions Act (SB 309) – would require the state to implement a series of clean energy and smart-growth policies that will stimulate job growth in the emerging “green collar” job sector in the coming years. Taken together, these policies would result in a mandated reduction of global warming pollution by 25% by 2020 and 90% by 2050. The bill would make Maryland a national leader — ahead of even California — in its commitment to fighting global warming!
It’s because of your ongoing grassroots support that we have gotten this far. Thank you for all your tremendous work and we’ll be in touch with next steps. In the meantime, if you haven’t already, click here to check out the inspiring video from last month’s rally for global warming solutions.
The most important thing you can do right now is thank the governor for his support!
